George’s culinary journey began at 15 in a seafood restaurant in Port Stephens. Whilst working at Muse Restaurant in the Hunter Valley, at only 18 years of age, he won the prestigious Brett Graham scholarship. This earned him a start in the 2-Michelin-Star “The Lebury” in London’s Notting Hill, where he spent the next 2 years of his career. Since returning to Australia, he worked at some of Sydney’s top establishments, including Sepia Restaurant and Bistro Guillaume.
George opened his first restaurant in 2019, The Signal Box. 3 years later, he joined his brother Matthew in his catering company Bare Chested Chef. Quickly becoming one of the most sought-after private chefs in Australia, an everyday office was a $30 million house, working with the world’s biggest brands and celebrities.
The Why Behind Bare Chefs
This life provided the opportunity to sit in rooms that George could never dream of, and cooking quickly became his key to the world. Although this really was the rockstar life, behind closed doors, there was a silent battle every day. With a passion for health and longevity, this lifestyle was eating him away. Living a busy and on-the-go life, every day he was resorting to convenient and fast food on the go. He knew there was no longevity in his career living this way.
George’s most recent venture, Bare Chefs, was born from this. “Challenging the status quo with eating well and eating fast, by giving customers access to better choices through nutrition”. This began with meals delivered across Newcastle and Sydney. These are not ready-made meals, instead a private chef experience at your fingertips. The Bare Chefs mission has become much greater than a meal delivery service, dipping into the global market.
